From mines to materials – for a sustainable future

Swedish Metals & Minerals is one of five programs within Impact Innovation initiative. We bring together stakeholders from the entire value chain – from mining to material use – to both increase the availability of sustainable resources and reduce the impact on climate, environment and society.

Our mission

Enable a sustainable and resilient supply of metals and minerals for the societal transition

Open Calls

Three new calls within the program, opened in the beginning of April. Call texts and more information can be found at Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency. The calls for proposals close at the beginning of September.
Main call - Technical innovation

Impact Innovation: Research and Development projects in technical action areas in the program

Aims to support the development of innovative solutions and improvements with novelty value within the framework of the technical action areas of the program.

Aims to strengthen Sweden’s potential in five of the program’s social action areas.

How can we build a resilient and sustainable Sweden — together?

That question was at the heart of Swedish Metals & Minerals’ participation in Impact Innovation Day during Almedalen. Together with our sister programs Shift Sweden and Water Wise Societies, we addressed some of the most critical issues of our time.

“We were in complete agreement. We need to see the small element in the larger context. Everything we do in the program is based on identified needs, and to understand those needs, we must listen to and mobilise stakeholders,” said Maria Swartling.

Swedish Metals & Minerals is one of five programs within Impact Innovation - Sweden's major innovation initiative to tackle the challenges of our time and the future - an initiative by the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova. The program is stakeholder-driven in close collaboration with industry, academia and other relevant actors.

Projects that make a difference

A strong start

73 projects was granted funding through the programme’s first three calls – an investment of nearly SEK 100 million. This marks the beginning of a long-term and powerful initiative for sustainable metals and minerals.

The projects that received funding in the last two application rounds were also recently announced. These projects focused on the interaction between society and industry, and between humans and technology. More calls for proposals are on the way, so stay tuned!
