Impact Innovation Day: Taking joint steps towards the solutions of tomorrow

How can we build a resilient and sustainable Sweden — together?

That question was at the heart of Swedish Metals & Minerals’ participation in Impact Innovation Day on 26 June, held in Framtidens trädgård during Almedalen Week in Visby. Together with our sister programs Shift Sweden and Water Wise Societies, we addressed some of the most critical issues of our time: skills supply, system transformation, and innovation collaboration in a changing geopolitical landscape.

Skills supply for system transformation

In the seminar “The race for talent – how can Sweden become a global leader in the system transformation?”, Maria Swartling, Program Director of Swedish Metals & Minerals, joined John Hultén (Program Director, Shift Sweden) and Magnus Arnell (Program Director, Water Wise Societies). The panel highlighted the importance of need-driven development:

“We were in complete agreement. We need to see the small element in the larger context. Everything we do in the program is based on identified needs, and to understand those needs, we must listen to and mobilise stakeholders,” said Maria Swartling.

Shared ambition, common challenges

In the afternoon, an open workshop brought together around 50 participants to exchange ideas and experiences with the programs.
Niclas Dahlström, Head of Social Innovation at Swedish Metals & Minerals, reflected:

“What struck me the most was the strong willingness to contribute and come together around the pace and power of innovation needed to meet societal challenges. It became clear that we share many of the same challenges across the programs – and that there is great potential in learning from each other’s networks and experiences moving forward.”
