Opinion piece: “Unleash innovative Sweden”

The Program Directors for the five programs within Impact Innovation.
The technology exists, as does the will to change. It is time to break today’s lock-ins and make room for new solutions. Old decision-making patterns, outdated ways of working and a societal structure not designed for transition are standing in the way of Sweden’s innovation capacity. This is the message from the programme directors of the Impact Innovation programs in a joint opinion piece in Dagens Industri.
“Technologies, ideas and solutions exist, but governance and the surrounding systems are not keeping pace. Dependence on fossil fuels is not only an energy issue. Today, it is the clearest example of how we continue to act short-term — how we make decisions based on old regulations and how we regulate markets, assess risks and allow established norms to shape challenges and needs,” the Program Directors write in the opinion piece.
“Impact Innovation’s work concerns our water supply, how we travel, live and build our communities, public services, individual health and well-being, and resilience,” says Maria Swartling, Program Director of Swedish Metals & Minerals.
The opinion piece concludes with five proposals for what is needed to unlock current structures and gather and direct the will to change in the right direction.
