Next-generation Minds Exploring Technology in Metals (NextMetals)

Purpose and goal

In general, NextMetals strives to increase the attractiveness of the metals sector (green transition in metals) in society to provide a better flow of talent to industry and universities. Our ambition is to increase the attractiveness of the area and build a stronger and more engaged community that can contribute to strengthening the residents´ social commitment, sense of inclusion and future belief in the metals sector towards a net zero society.

Expected effects and result

NextMetals is expected to conclude with established activities for children in schools, science centres and other events to raise public awareness of the attractiveness of the field of metals. This also includes the use of portable tools to test various metallic materials and components for children. We will also organize events where children and their families can get acquainted with this research area. The activities also include training of teachers in schools on the subject.

Planned approach and implementation

The project integrates activities from different sectors of society as partners in NextMetals. The project plan towards the proposed objectives includes 6+1 interconnected work packages (WP): WP0: Project management, WP1: Definition and benchmarking of NextMetals activities, WP2: On-site/in-lab exhibitions, WP3: NextMetals Box-konceptet, WP4: Construction of portable tools for exploring metals, WP5: Training of teachers in schools and Upptech, WP6: Dissemination of results.
