Gällivare Narratives (GN)

Purpose and goal

Projektet Gällivare Narrativ aims to promote mining communities to become more attractive, prosperous and inclusive places to live and work. The goal is to, with Gällivare as a starting point, test and develop methods and processes that can support societal transformation and create a model for further application. Furthermore, the project will explore prototypes that combine the power of methods rooted in inclusive systems innovation, design research and ethics.

Expected effects and result

The project will deliver prototypes and an applicable model for future social transformation in mining communities. Expected impacts include increased knowledge about and new ways of working with attractiveness, well-being and inclusion in these communities. By addressing gender-related dynamics, such as young women´s outmigration and income inequality, the project aims to promote social sustainability, inclusion and economic gender equality which in turn benefits all residents.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is coordinated by RISE, with Boliden, Gällivare Kommun and Medskapandebyrån as partners. The implementation focuses on testing and developing methods and prototypes for societal transformation in Gällivare. All rooted in inclusive system innovation, design research and ethics. Local initiatives are analyzed at micro, meso and macro levels to understand societal dynamics. Sex and gender perspectives are integrated throughout to promote systematic social sustainability and inclusion.
