Dance with children and young people for increased attractiveness and capacity in Kiruna and Gällivare (DANS)

Purpose and goal

The purpose is to give children and young people in Kiruna and Gällivare tools to develop creativity, participation and faith in the future through dance, storytelling and their own creation – and thereby contribute to an attractive, sustainable and viable society. The project explores how dance for children and young people contribute to increasing the attractiveness of Kiruna and Gällivare as places to live, work and live, and strengthen the places´ capacity to meet future skills needs.

Expected effects and result

Dance has always created cohesion and meaning. Dance for children and young people is one of several ways that will contribute to a new competence for action in Kiruna and Gällivare. Meeting with children and young people, the society of the future is shaped, based on knowledge, respect and equal value. Through dance for children and young people, the capacity we need to meet future needs in both society and working life is created. Dance gives faith in the future, creativity and community.

Planned approach and implementation

The project creates creative meeting places for children, young people, dance artists and cultural creators. Dance camps, workshops and larger public events are arranged. Film documentation and follow-up research is carried out. – Summer Dance Academy 2026 in Kiruna Cultural Center – Midwinter Dance Academy 2027 in Kiruna and Gällivare, an artistic tribute to polar night, midwinter and children´s unique living environment – Manifestation and evaluation conference in Kiruna Cultural Center 2028
