New research to strengthen industry preparedness

Nineteen research projects have been granted funding to increase the resilience of Sweden’s metals and minerals supply. With a focus on preparedness, innovation and collaboration, the projects will develop solutions that strengthen industry both under normal conditions and in times of crisis.

Nineteen new research projects have now been granted funding within Swedish Metals & Minerals through the call Impact Innovation: Resilient metals and minerals supply for strengthened preparedness. The projects have a combined budget of more than SEK 70 million, of which approximately SEK 42 million is funding from Vinnova.

The projects granted funding through the call will create knowledge, concepts and tools that make it possible to analyse, plan and strengthen Sweden’s metals and minerals supply in peacetime, during heightened preparedness and ultimately in war, as well as in other challenging security policy situations.

A key purpose of the call is to strengthen the metals and minerals industry’s ability and conditions to contribute to total defence. The focus is on issues that industry itself can influence and that can be addressed through changes in working methods, organisation, technology, production or collaboration.

The new research projects will start after the summer (2026) and will run for one to three years.

Read more on Vinnova’s website for information about the projects (at the bottom of the page).
