Sustainable solutions for reducing accidents involving reindeer – Reindeer husbandry and industry (HLRi)
Purpose and goal
The aim is to develop and test solutions that reduce reindeer accidents and increase road safety through collaboration between different industries and actors. The goal is to strengthen knowledge and understanding between parties, explore innovations and create a common knowledge base that can contribute to sustainable and effective working methods for the benefit of people as well as animals.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to lead to fewer reindeer killed in traffic and reduced operational disruptions due to accidents. Traffic safety is improved by keeping reindeer away from roads and railways. Increased knowledge and understanding between actors strengthens cooperation. New technical solutions and methods are evaluated to promote sustainability, efficiency and dissemination of results that can inspire further collaboration and innovation.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is implemented through several work packages, including project management and coordination. Within the project, some parties will explore long-term sustainable methods for collecting, transporting and feeding reindeer. Other parties will further develop and discuss new technical innovations, such as sensor technology and software for roads and railways to reduce accidents. The project will also conduct research and analyze data and statistics for evaluation of different ideas.
