Aluminum Foil Coating with Graphene as Current Collector of LiFePO4 Cathode in Lithium-ion Battery (ALGCC)
Purpose and goal
The aluminum (Al) current collector (CC) is a crucial component for various types of batteries. For instance, Al foil is used as CC for the LiFePO4 (LFP) cathode in Lithium/ion batteries (LiBs). The graphene slurries were successfully formulated and coated onto Al foil to form a homogenous conductive film with good adhesion to the Al during the pre-study project. This project aims to develop ALCC, and a method for the large-scale production of graphene-coated ALCC will be demonstrated.
Expected effects and result
The graphene slurry and the coating method will be further developed with the aim of presenting graphene-coated aluminum current collector (ALCC) with superior performance as compared to ALCCs made with commercial materials, and to bring the method of producing graphene-coated Al CCs closer to large-scale production conditions. This project aims to contribute to the development of Al CCs for the European battery market and shall demonstrate methods for the production of competitive Al CCs.
